What car audio amplifier do I need?
Please help. . I’m new to the car audio scene. I have an enclosed 2 12″ Kicker Comp VR subs each max 700 watts. I need an amp to handle this. I don’t blast my music, it is for my own enjoyment. How many watts do I need? Mono or not? 1, 2, 3 or 4 channel? All im hooking up is the two subs. Does anybody suggest a specific amp?
Thanks in advance.

hope it helps
i suggest a 2 channel 1000 watt amp. My boyfriend has a Rocksforde fosgate 2 channel 1000 watt ampGood luck
You are going 2 need a channel amp. Around 500 watts rms x2. Thats 4 sure. Now check out this Hifonics amp. Good quality amp and cheap. This website is a great site to order from, quick and cheap and definetly worth the money! Check this amp out!
I’m very good with car audio. And dont listen to those M. E. C. P. installer guys, their full of crap. their just certified to pass a writen test. Anyways I’d strongly suggest you get a Kicker ZX750. 1 amp. It is a 1 channel amp, which in my opinion is better for subwoofers.
kicker amps are usually under rated. I had this amp and mine was putting out 942 watts RMS. RMS means continuous wattage output. amps & subs say 700watts!! on the box, but thats peak which means once a month for a fraction of a second it can produce xxx amount of peak watts. So basically dont even pay attention to peak ratings always look for RMS.
Now you need to know what type of subs you have, whether you have single voice coils, dual voice coil, 2ohm, 4ohm, etc. I’d say dual 4 ohm subs are best because if you wire them into 2 ohms you get less resistance & your woofers accept more power from your amp. The higher the ohm the more it resists accept power, the lower the ohm the more power it accepts from the amp. the ZX750. 1 Kicker amp puts out 750Watts RMS at 2 ohms & remember its probably under rated. So your going to have more than enough power for your subs.
This link takes you to a woofer wiring diagram, you should be able to figure it out here. http://rockfordfosgate. com/rftech/woofer_wizard. asp
I hope this helps, let me know. Later.
