Should I Buy A 94 Honda Civic Hb Or A 91 Mazda Miata?

Ok so I am a guy. A little skeptical about these two little cars because they’re not too “manly” I’ve always wanted a convertible and i’ve also wanted a civic. They both have great reviews. The miata has a few little performance parts which is a plus. I’m looking for a fun quick little commuter car. If anybody has any opinions or experience with these let me know.

  1. You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

  2. Del Sol?
Actually I had a 91 civic hb and got a 94 miata. The civic was more practical for a daily driver, but don’t like the thin can feel of it. The miata is more fun, but not great on the freeway. But I only use it on the streets on the weekends.
I don’t think a Del Sol is that much fun to drive(driven one) but it’s tweeter of the two. I didn’t want a DS bc it cost more than the Miata and it’s fwd.
The Miata would be perfect with a set of Koni shocks and if you can bear the cost of a turbo. I went for the 94 bc of the larger 1.8 and less stuff needed for an add-on turbo and misc stuff.

  3. There’s nothing wrong with driving a Civic or Miata. I’d be tempted to go with the Civic. Lots of parts available, cheap to run, but fun with a manual transmission and good tires.
Have it inspected by an independent mechanic before you buy.

  4. Honda Civic is almost always a solid choice. They have a lot of available additions. Also a lot of spare parts on the market so repairs are cheaper.

  5. the honda beats the mazda for both reliability and practicality. i would say the miata would rank a little higher on the fun factor scale.

  6. If you know that two seats is all you will need get the Miata. There are few cars that handle as well as they do.
You are talking about a car that is getting near to 20 years on now and if you plan on owning it for a few years one thing that comes to mind is where will you find parts? Well the Miata has one of the finest support markets out there.
The major drawback of the Miata for a commuter car is no cup holders. The after market ones just are not that great. The ones that fasten to the tunnel wear and fail to hold a cup securely and the ones that fit in the console are in the way of the shifter. There is a new center console cover that fixes that problem, but I will not pay what they want for it. So I just put my cup of coffee between my legs when I am not holding it. Most of the time I just keep the cup in my left hand and drive. It is fun to rub it into drivers that are white knuckling a car through a turn by taking a drink of coffee while I pull away from them.
I use Gabriel shocks on my Miata by the way.
If you don’t but the Miata, you will always regret it. But if you are worried about how manly they are this may not be the car for you. Because it can run fast through a turn, it demands some restraint to learn its cornering limits. I fear you may push it to far and not work up to where you know the limits are. Once you exceed the limits of your skill, the car will be totaled and maybe you too. There will always be some one who wants to prove that a Camaro (for one example) is a better car. If you can avoid being baited then maybe you can enjoy the Miata.
