  1. The way to get a free quote is to take your vehicle to Carmax. They will give you a quote of what they will pay for your car regardless of whether you purchase a car from them or not. This quote is good for seven days. Then you can go and shop for the car you want and know what it is worth to the dealer in real money. However, you will still need to negotiate a discount off the vehicle you select as the Carmax figure is whole sale for your vehicle. Kbb and other on line guides do not buy vehicles and are often higher than what a dealership will pay. Finally, if the Carmax number is higher than what the dealership offers you, calculate the sales tax savings to see if your better trading it in. For example, Carmax offers you $6,000 for your car. Your local dealership offers you $5,500. Based off of a 6% sales tax you will save $330.00 on slaes tax by trading the vehicle in netting you 5,830 in value for your car. Therefor, the Carmax deal saves you $170.00. Look at the angles like this and you will make a good decision.
