If You Buy A Used Car And There Are Part Recalls On It, Does The Car Company Still Pay For The Cost Of Repair?
I have recently bought a ‘99 ford windstar and I have discovered there are 100’s of recalls for different parts on the van. If I take my car in for these recalls, do I pay for everything since this is a used car and I am not the first owner or does the ford place pay since it is a recall. Some of these recalls happened in 2005 on the ‘99 windstar.

Factory recalls are just that…Recalls…there is some part defect or workmanship etc. that THEY ( Car Company ) have to fix. Usually it’s a safety concern. I suggest you take your vehicle…or call with a serial number and let them run it thru their computer and it will tell them and you what needs to be done.
they will still fix it or replace it. just be sure to take it to the dealer that was assigned. if you don’t know who that is go to your nearest ford dealer and they can tell you if they can do it. since it is used some of it may have been done by the previous owner and the service department can tell if its been done or not. bring a printout of the recalls with you.
Ford will pay for all recalls that are active, they will need to VIN number and your reg, and the mileage. If it falls within the recall time they will have to fix it.
Easiest way to find out if your Ford has any recalls associated to it is to call (taking it to them is faster) the local Ford dealer and ask them to run the VIN Number. They will be able to print out a sheet that has the list of recalls on it that Ford will pay for that are attached to your van. and also if there were any repairs that Ford paid for (Ford Motor Company not the Ford dealer) in the past year if there were any it will be on that printout. By the way. Just because there is a recall shown for that year make and model doesn’t mean Ford will pay for it. It HAS to be attached to that VIN on the FORD printout not some site on the web.
If it’s a “Service Bulletin” It WILL NOT be covered unless your factory warrant is still in effect. Which on a 1999 it is not.
i own a repair shop and most of the time ford will cover it,the recall is usually on the vehicles ,and sometimes it don’t matter who owns it,i have bought used ones and got letters in the mail about re-calls,so the chances are good if this one hasn’t been repaired yet it can be ,but you need to check with a local dealer and see if you can get this one done, sometimes there are exclusions of what they will cover, and you,ll find this out when you call, good luck with it hope this helps.
u should buy a new van these are a pain im a mechanic trust me last month i had 14 customers come in with winstars. and yes they should pay but remember for ever recall theres a certain amount of time u have to taken it in if u dont take it in these certain dates they wont fix it withou pay!!so hurry up and make sure they do the job!!
All recalls and “Service Bulletins” should be covered by the automaker/dealer. They’re usually initiated because of a fault in the vehicle that makes it unsafe, so they can’t charge you to fix it.
Take the car in, they should be able to see which services have already been done, and fix the ones that haven’t.
you shoudnt have to pay for it, and chances are the previous owner should have taken care of it. Ask the person you bought it from, and take it to a dealer for inspection.
First thing is check with the previous owner (if possible) to find out if he/she has complied with the recalls. If the original ownership cannot be determined, check at the Ford dealership (they’ll be able to tap into the factory data base to determine if all the recalls have been met).
If the recall is due to a “safety measure” (i.e. brakes, engine fire possibility, or something else that is life threatening), then I’d bring the vehicle in and ask them to fix it under the recall notice (I am assuming you’ve made a “print out” of all of the pertinent info?). If there is no endangement to the operator (fuel economy, or under circumstances under which the vehicle would NEVER be subjected – like child safety seats and all of your kids are high school age, so you would not have need of child safety seats being fastened properly), I wouldn’t worry about it. Hope this helps!
To answer your question, the answer is yes as long as it the factory part that is on recall.Lots of luck.If they argue about it,just don’t give up keep fighting for your recall. If they still won’t do it get an attorney.
