When Buying A Used Car, What’s A Normal Mileage For It?

I’m about to get my license so I’m looking for a car that is reliable. Everyone has been telling me get a car with good mileage and reliable with gas. Well, I am not really smart with cars, so does anyone know what a “good” amount of mileage (distance traveled) on a used car is?

  1. While 15K is the norm, 18K is also considered in range. We have become much more of a transient society. The national average varies from 15-18k per year depending on your area. If you are more rural, 15 is more the norm, 18k is the norm if you live in the city.
Since you frequently do not know the month of purchase you have to go buy model year. This time of year, the current year old is an 08 even though that is the same model year as new. An 07 should have 25-35k on it by now and that is normal. Add 12-15 per year before that.
    Good luck

  2. 15,000 Miles is the average for the US. Lets say you have a 2005 Car purchased around July of 2005. I would expect no more than 51,000 Miles.
    Good Luck

  3. agree with everyone else, 15000 per yr is average miles, so if its got less than 15k per year then its good, over is high

  4. 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year is average.
